Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg (1405–1468)
Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg is a pivotal figure in Albanian history and national identity, known for his resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Born into nobility and raised by the Ottomans, he returned to Albania in 1443, uniting principalities under the League of Lezha. Over two decades, Skanderbeg achieved significant victories, becoming a symbol of liberty and bravery in Europe. His legacy of unity and courage continues to inspire generations, making him a revered national hero.
Mother Teresa (1910–1997)
Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje in 1910, was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun known for her dedication to helping the poor and sick. In 1931, she adopted the name "Teresa" and joined the Loreto sisters in India. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta in 1950 and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. Mother Teresa passed away in Calcutta in 1997 and was canonized as a saint in 2016. Her legacy includes thousands of sisters and charitable centers in over 130 countries.
